Use the RICE method


ICE is an acronym for a series of actions that can help you control your pain and reduce the swelling that causes pain. It is commonly recommended for tears or sprains, but it also helps people with chronic arthritis conditions.

RICE means:
Rest
Ice
Compression
Elevation





When you have an episode of knee pain or joints, no matter what causes it, if it is important to give repose to that area. Avoid using the joint for a while and try to keep the affected area elevated above your heart as much as you can. This prevents fluid from accumulating and causes swelling.
A few times a day, put a cold compress on it. This can reduce inflammation and numb the pain. A compression bandage prevents inflammation from returning, but there is a thin line between not tight enough and too tight.

You want to feel compression in the area, but not too much to cut your circulation.
