Can help against cancer
In general, a varied diet, rich in fruits and vegetables, is essential when it comes to staying healthy.
More specifically, the scientific evidence seems to lean toward the idea that certain antioxidants, such as flavonoids, may play an important role in protecting against certain cancers. Some studies suggest that a diet rich in these compounds (present in lemons) may reduce the risk of breast, prostate or colon cancer.
Other research has found that a regular intake of citrus may be associated with a lower risk of pancreatic and stomach cancer.
A study in mice concluded that the compound D-limonene, present in lemon oils, appears to have a blocking action on tumour induction. But for the time being this evidence has not been transferred to humans.
