Protects against kidney stones
Kidney stones originate in the kidneys, when particles capable of originating crystals (such as calcium or uric acid) are present in such an amount in the urine that they cannot be dissolved by liquids.
To combat this, consumption of citric acid has been shown to provide effective protection against the formation of kidney stones. The reason for this is that this acid favours the increase of citrate in the urine, which reduces the risk that crystals end up turning into stones.
