The 30 most expensive dog breeds in the world

5. Pharaoh Hound

The Pharaoh Hound (or pharaoh’s dog) is the national dog of Malta. It gets a lot of attention for its particular appearance, which reminds us of Egyptian espinges. Legend has it that the ancient Phoenicians brought him to Malta, where he lived as a mascot for many pharaohs. Its real appearance, athletic constitution and intelligence are enough to justify the price it has: $2500. They have a reddish fur that requires very specific but inexpensive care: about $35. As for health care, they may have orthopedic problems, but in rare cases (2 to 3%), meaning medical costs can range from $1500 for regular checkups to $12,000 for the treatment of this occasional disease. Its life range is 11 to 14 years.
